It's hard to believe that it is August already!  Kids, parents and teachers are getting ready for school and catching that last chance for a summer break. That means that Fall is right around the corner.

Fall is also a great time for adults to go back-to-school.

There are a "plethora of programs" offering DIY home repair, gardening, home decorating and craft training available.

In honor of this back-to-school month, we have brought together a bunch of "classroom" ideas just for you. This is by no means a complete list.  But it is a start.  Have fun learning something new!

We will be broadcasting from the Fort Worth Home & Garden Show, August 11, at the Fort Worth Convention Center.  Come meet us at our booth in the Whiz-Q Stone exhibit, Booth #941, near the TNLA landscape feature.

Become a Master Gardener

Have a green thumb? Do you like the feel of the earth between your fingers, the fragrance of growing flowers, the taste of homegrown tomatoes? Do you want to share your interest in gardening with others?  If so, consider becoming a Master Gardener.

Master Gardeners (MG) are members of the local community who take an active interest in their lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers and gardens. They are enthusiastic, willing to learn and to help others, and able to communicate with diverse groups of people.

Master Gardeners are taught by Texas AgriLife Extension specialists, agents, and local experts. The program offers a minimum of 50 hours of instruction that covers topics including lawn care, ornamental trees and shrubs, insect, disease, and weed management; soils and plant nutrition, vegetable gardening; home fruit production; garden flowers; and water conservation.

The training is offered at various times during the year and at various locations across the state. Check with your County AgriLife Extension office for specific locations, dates, and times.
